On the outside, at the front of the briefcase, there are two larger zippered pockets for items you want to keep close at hand, easily accessible but protected behind a zipper.
On the outside, at the back of the briefcase, there is a zippered pocket with a so-called flap underneath, which opens just enough from the side of the bag so that the briefcase can be slipped comfortably onto the handle of a suitcase, making it much easier to carry bags together.
