A leather belt is the final touch in finishing a stylish man's outfit. Of course, the belt was originally a way to ensure that the pants stay on, but today the importance of the belt as an accessory is at least as important when its ultimate purpose has been as a support for the pants. 

A colorful or patterned belt gives a nice look to an otherwise elegant monochromatic ensemble, or similarly highlights a certain shade or detail. Traditionally, the belt and shoes have been chosen in the same shade, this nicely ties the whole thing together. Sometimes it can be appropriate to play a little or stretch this style rule and thus bring a little edge to your dressing.
