Dance Shoes

Dress shoes complete a festive look. Shoes worn with a suit can roughly be divided into two groups: oxford and derby style shoes. In an Oxford shoe, the upper is smoothly attached under the toe part of the shoe, whereas in a derby style shoe, the pieces where the laces are attached are sewn on top of the toe part. In a derby shoe, the toe part and the tongue are one continuous piece, unlike in an Oxford, where these are separate pieces.

Another essential thing when choosing a dress shoe is the sole and especially how it's made. For dress shoes, especially at parties, it's best to favor a high-quality leather-soled shoe made using traditional methods. Of course, a stitched leather sole is also much more comfortable, higher quality, and more durable than a glued sole, not to mention the style. There are two traditional methods favored in leather sole construction: blake welt or goodyear welt, named after their inventors. Both methods have their advantages and supporters. At Saarn, most shoes are made using the blake welt method, which is more typical in Italian shoes. The strengths of this method include, for example, a more flexible structure.

The most traditional and safest choice for a dress shoe is a thin-soled Oxford style shoe, especially if your outfit is meant for an event where the dress code is a suit. 

It used to be thought that a black shoe was always the safest and most versatile choice, but nowadays it actually feels like brown has taken over that idea. A dark brown shoe is often easier and more reliable to pair with many different shades of suits, with the exception, of course, of a black suit, where most likely a black shoe is the only right choice. 

In Finland, a derby style leather shoe is also perfectly suitable as a dress shoe, as long as the shade and style are taken into account. In some countries, however, etiquette is followed more strictly and the derby shoe is considered more casual attire. So it's always good to keep this in mind when thinking about your outfit for different occasions at home or abroad.
