The tie is definitely the most well-known and widely used men's accessory. A good silk tie is one of those few essential accessories that every man should have in his wardrobe. Once you've acquired that one versatile and stylish tie, you can expand your collection with different patterns, colors, and materials. Nothing finishes a gentleman's outfit as sharply as a carefully chosen tie! You can wear a tie with a dress shirt and suit, blazer, vest, or sweater, and it always adds a stylish touch to both the outfit and the wearer. For a more relaxed look, try a trendy knit tie, which is made from silk or wool. A knit tie is usually recognized by its flat end.

The origins of the tie, or cravat, are believed to be most closely linked to military dress. It is said that the French were inspired by the red scarf tied around the necks of Croatian soldiers, and thus the cravat was born. However, even earlier, men had worn scarf-like neckwear, but this was the model for the modern tie that is tied.

There are plenty of good instructions for tying a tie available online. It's worth trying a few and choosing a couple that feel right for you, then learning them well. When choosing a knot, you should consider the width and material of the tie (thin or thick), as well as the style of your shirt collar. For example, a button-down collar usually requires a fairly narrow knot. The most common knots include the Windsor (French), Half Windsor, and Four-in-hand (English knot). Of these, the Half Windsor is very versatile, almost symmetrical, and suits many types of collars, although for the thickest materials, the Four-in-hand would be a better choice.
