Ties

The tie is definitely the most well-known and widely used men's accessory. A good silk tie is one of those few essential accessories that every man's wardrobe should have. Once you have acquired that one versatile and stylish tie, you can expand your selection with different patterns, colors, and materials. Nothing completes a gentleman's outfit as sharply as a carefully chosen tie! You can wear a tie with a dress shirt along with a suit, blazer, vest, or sweater, and it always brings a stylish structure to both the outfit and its wearer. For a more casual look, you can opt for a trendy knit tie, which is made from silk or wool. A knit tie is usually recognized by its flat end.

The roots of the tie, or cravat, most likely stem from military attire. It is said that the French were inspired by the red scarves tied around the necks of Croatian soldiers, and thus the cravat was born. However, even earlier, men had been using scarf-like neckwear, but this would have been the prototype for the tie that is knotted.

There are plenty of good instructions for tying a tie available on the internet. It's worth trying a few and choosing some that feel suitable for you, then learning them. When selecting a knot, consider the width and material (thin or thick) of the tie as well as the style of your shirt collar. For example, a button-down collar usually requires a fairly narrow knot. Some of the most common knots include Windsor (French), Half Windsor, and Four-in-hand (English knot). Of these, the Half Windsor is very versatile, almost symmetrical, and works with many types of collars. However, for ties made from the thickest materials, the Four-in-hand would be a better choice.
