Ties

The tie is definitely the most famous and most used men's accessory. A good silk tie is one of the few essential accessories that every man should have in his wardrobe. Once that one versatile and stylish tie is purchased, you can expand the selection with different patterns, colors and materials. Nothing completes a gentleman's outfit as sharply as a carefully chosen tie! You can wear a tie with a collared shirt with a suit, blazer, vest or sweater and it always brings an elegant attitude, both to the outfit and to its wearer. You can get a more relaxed look to your outfit with a trendy knit tie, which is made of silk or wool. A knit tie is most often recognized by its flat end.

The roots of the necktie, or cravat, probably come mostly from the clothing of soldiers. It is said that the French were inspired by the red scarf tied around the necks of Croatian soldiers, and this is how the tie originated. Even before, there have been more scarf-like neckwear for men, but this would have been a prototype for a tie.

You can find good instructions for tying a tie on the internet in the dark. It's worth trying a few, and choose a few that feel right for you and learn them. When choosing a tie, you should consider the width and material of the tie (thin or thick) and also the model of the collar of your collared shirt. For example, a button collar usually requires a fairly narrow knot for the tie. The most common nodes are e.g. Windsor (French), Half Windsor and Four-in-hand (English Knot). Of these, the Half Windsor is a very versatile, almost symmetrical knot that fits with many types of collars, although the Four-in-hand would be a better choice for a tie made of the thickest materials.
